본문 마가복음 Mark 8:11-13 제목 하나님을 보여달라!  Show me your God. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [표준새번역]    11바리새파 사람들이 나와서는, 예수에게 시비를 걸기 시작하였다.  그들은 예수를 시험하느라고 그에게 하늘로부터 내리는 표적을 요구하였다.  12예수께서는 마음 속으로 깊에 탄식하시고서 말씀하셨다.  "어찌하여 이 세대가 표적을 요구하는가! 내가 진정으로 너희에게 말한다. 이 세대는 아무 표적도 받지 못할 것이다."  13그리고 예수께서는 그들을 떠나, 다시 배를 타고 건너편으로 가셨다. [NRSV]    11The Pharisees came and began to argue with him, asking him for a sign from heaven, to test him.  12And he sighed deeply in his spirit and said, "Why does this generation ask for a sign? Truly I tell you, no sign will be given to this generation."  13And he left them, and getting into the boat again, he went across to the other side. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. 하늘로부터 오는 표적  A sign from heaven -----------------------------------------------    바리새파 사람들이 나와서, 예수님에게 시비를 걸기 시작하였습니다 (막 8:11a).  "The Pharisees came and began to argue with him [=Jesus]" (Mk. 8:11a).  그들은 예수님에게 "하늘로부터 내리는 표적을 요구하였습니다" (막 8:11b).  They asked  Jesus for "a sign from heaven" (Mk. 8:11b).  그러면 "하늘로부터 내리는 표적"이란 무엇 (what)이며, 바리새인들은 왜 (why) 예수님에게 그러한 표적을 요구했을까요?  So then, what is "a sign from heaven, and why did Pharisees demand Jesus for such a sign?    예수님 시대의 유대인들은, 메시야가 오면, 가장 놀라운 일들이 벌어질 것이라고 믿었습니다.  It was believed that, when the Messiah came, the most startling things would take place.  그래서 거짓 예언자들이 많이 나타났습니다.  Hence many false Messiahs appeared.  그들은 사람들에게 놀라운 표적을 약속하며 사람들을 현혹하였습니다.   Promising astonishing signs, they lured people to follow them.  어떤 이는 요단강을 둘로 갈라놓고 그곳을 걸어서 통과할 수 있게 하겠다고 약속했습니다.  One of them promised to cleave the waters of the Jordan River in two and make a pathway through it.  다른 이는 말 한 마디로 성벽을 무너지게 하겠다고 장담했습니다.  The other guaranteed to make the city walls fall down with a word.  바리새인들이 예수님에게 요구한 것은 바로 이러한 표적이었습니다.  It was that kind of sign that the Pharisees were demanding of Jesus. 2.  모든 생명은 하나님의 돌보심 위에 서 있습니다.  All lives are standing on God's care. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------    고대인들은 하나님의 존재와 행동을 자연법을 파괴하는 사건들 속에서 발견하려고 했습니다.  The ancient people wanted to discover the existence and action of God from the events against the natural law.  그러나 이러한 기대는 하나님의 본성을 분별하지 못하는 것에 기인됩니다.  This expectation is, however, derived from their indiscretion concerning the nature of God.  온 세계는 하나님의 표적들로 꽉 차 있습니다.  The whole world is full of God's signs.  그래서 예수님은, 밭에 자라는 밀, 빵을 부풀게 하는 누룩, 산기슭에 핀 들꽃, 이 모든 것이 하나님에 대해 말해 주고 있다고 말씀하셨습니다.  Jesus said, "The wheat in the field, the leaven in the loaf, the wild flowers on the hillside, all are speaking of God."    인간은 좋은 수확을 거두기 위해 씨를 뿌리고, 물을 주고, 양분을 공급할 수 있습니다.  For good harvest human beings may seed, water, and nurture.  그러나 말 그대로 곡식이 자라게 할 수는 없습니다.  Literally speaking, however, they cannot make crops grow.  곡식은 스스로 자라는 것이며, 생명력은 하나님이 주신 것입니다.  Crops grow up by themselves, and vitality is given by God.  인간은 곡식이 잘 자라도록 도울 뿐이지 곡식을 자라게 하는 것은 아닙니다.  It is not that we make crops grow but that we just help them grow.  곡식을 자라게 하시는 분은 하나님이십니다.  It is God who makes crops grow.  그러므로 모든 생명은 하나님의 돌보심 위에 서 있는 것입니다.  Therefore, all lives are standing upon God's care. 3.  말씀이 우리의 삶을 풍부하게 합니다.  The word of God makes our life rich. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------    작은 양의 누룩이 반죽에 들어가면 커지듯이, 하나님의 말씀은 우리의 삶을 풍부하게 만드십니다.  Just as a small amount of leaven makes dough a big bread, God's word makes our life rich.  세상 사람들은 그리스도교 신앙이 인생에서 재미와 기쁨을 앗아갈 것이라고 가정합니다.  The secular presuppose that Christian faith would deprived human life of enjoyment and rejoice.  그러나 그리스도인은 고통과 슬픔 속에서도 기쁨을 빼앗기지 않습니다.  However, Christians can never be deprived of joy in amidst of sorrow and suffering.  고난 중에 오히려 감사하며, 더 기뻐할 것입니다.  Rather, even in adversities they would be more grateful and rejoiceful.  왜냐하면 그리스도인은 절망 속에서 하나님의 실재를 보기 때문입니다. It is because a Christian sees the reality of God in despair.  말씀은 우리에게 하나님의 실재를 보여주며, 우리를 하나님의 실재에 참여하게 합니다.  The Word of God shows us the reality of God and enables us to participate in it.  그래서 우리는 시간에서부터 영원으로 나아가게 되는 것입니다.  Thus, we are to proceed from time to eternity.  우리의 삶이 하나님의 말씀 위에 놓여지게 될 때에, 우리의 삶은 날마다 풍부한 변혁을 거듭해 나가는 것입니다.  Once our life is based upon the word of God, it continues to make abundant transformations day by day. 4.  염려와 불안  Worry and anxiety --------------------------------------    우리는 우리의 삶에 대해 생각하며 계획합니다.  We think about our life and make some plans for it.  그러나 삶의 현실은 종종 우리의 기대를 배신합니다.  But actual realities of life often betray our expectations.  그래서 우리는 염려합니다.  So we worry.  인생을 스스로의 힘으로 살 수 있는 것이라면, 우리는 염려할 필요가  없습니다.  If we can live by our own power, we don't need worry.  그러나 자기의 인생을 스스로 경영할 수 있다고 주장하는 사람도 염려하며 살아갑니다.  However, those who assert, "I can handle my life by my self," live in and with worries.  그러므로 하나님의 돌보심이 없이도 삶을 살아갈 수 있다고 가정하는 것은 오류입니다.  It is, therefore, erroneous to presume that one can live one's own life without God's care.    또한 염려는 불확실한 미래를 달라지게 하지 못합니다.  Worry cannot make any difference at all to uncertain future.  염려는 불안을 낳을 뿐입니다.  Worry merely produces anxiety.  물론 불안 그 자체가 죄는 아닙니다.  Anxiety itself is, of course, not sin.  그러나 불안은 죄에 이르는 병입니다 [키에르케고르].  Anxiety is, however, sickness to sin [Kierkegaard].  왜냐하면 불안 속에서 우리는 가장하고, 비방하고, 속이고, 배신하며, 학대하기 때문입니다.  It is because we in anxiety pretend, blame, deceive, betray, and abuse.  이러한 일들은 우리의 인간 관계를 병들게 하며, 우리 스스로를 소외시킵니다.  Those things make our relationships sick and ourselves alienated.  이것이 곧 죄입니다.  That is sin. 5. 하나님의 사랑과 돌보심을 신뢰하는 사람은 특별한 표적을 필요로 하지 않습니다.  Those with trust in God's love and care do not need special signs. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------    그러면 하나님을 믿는다고 하면서, 인간은 왜 염려하며 불안해합니까?  Then why are those who believe in God in worry and anxiety?  왜냐하면 자신의 삶이 하나님의 사랑과 돌보심 위에 세워져 있다는 사실을 깨닫지 못하기 때문입니다.  It is because they do not recognize that their own life is built upon God's love and care.  마태복음 6장에서 예수님은 이렇게 말씀하십니다: "또 너희가 어찌 의복을 위하여 염려하느냐 들의 백합화가 어떻게 자라는가 생각하여 보라  수고도 아니하고 길쌈도 아니하느니라  그러나 내가 너희에게 말하노니 솔로몬의 모든 영광으로도 입은 것이 이 꽃 하나만 같지 못하였느니라  오늘 있다가 내일 아궁이에 던지우는 들풀도 하나님이 이렇게 입히시거든 하물며 너희일까 보냐 믿음이 적은 자들아" (마 6:28-30).  In Matthew chapter 6, Jesus says, "And why do you worry about clothing?  Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin.  yet I tell you, even solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these.  But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you--you of little faith?" (Mt. 6:28-30).  오늘 있다가 내일 사라지는 들풀도 하나님이 아름답게 입히십니다.  God clothes with beauty the grass of the field which is alive today and perishes tomorrow.  하물며 인간 영혼이겠습니까?  So much the more human spirits?  믿음은 하나님의 사랑과 돌보심을 전적으로 신뢰하는 것입니다.  Faith is total trust in God's love and care.  이러한 신뢰가 없을 때 여러분의 마음속에 의혹과 불안이 자라납니다.  Without such trust doubts and anxieties grow in your heart.  하나님의 사랑을 신뢰하는 사람은 특별한 표적을 필요로 하지 않습니다.  Those with trust in the love of God do not need special signs. 6. 악한 세대  The evil generation ------------------------------------    그러나 바리새인들은 표적을 구하고 있었습니다.  But the Pharisees were seeking a sign.  그들은 예수님에게 하늘의 표적을 보여달라고 요구했습니다.  They asked Jesus for a sign from heaven.  그러나 예수님은 표적 보여주기를 거절하셨습니다.  But Jesus refused.  뿐만 아니라 "이 세대에게 표적을 주지 않겠다"고 말씀하셨습니다 [막 8:12].  In addition, he said, "No sign will be given to this generation" [Mk. 8:12].  이 말씀에는 분노가 담겨 있습니다.  This word includes his anger.  예수님은 무엇에 대해 분노하신 걸까요?  About what was Jesus outraged?  예수님은 바리새인들의 불신에 대해 분노하셨습니다.  Jesus was angry about the Pharisees' distrust.  그의 분노는, 이집트를 빠져 나온 광야의 옛 세대가 버림을 받았듯이, 이 세대도 버림을 받을 것이라는 사실을 암시합니다.  His fury insinuates that, just as the old generation of the wilderness, escaping from Egypt, was abandoned, so will be this generation as well.    이집트를 탈출한 이스라엘 사람들은 악한 세대였습니다.  Israelites who came out of Egypt was an evil generation.  그들은 하나님의 도움으로 노예생활에서 벗어난 사람들이었습니다.  They were released from slavery by God's help.  그러나 그들은 광야에서 우상을 섬김으로써 하나님을 분노케 하였습니다.  They, however, made God outraged by worshiping other idols in the wilderness.  신명기 32:20b-21은 이렇게 증거합니다: "그들은 타락한 세대, 진실이라고는 털끝만큼도 없는 자들이다.  우상을 섬겨서 나를 격분시켰고, 신이 아닌 것들을 신이라고 섬겨서 나의 질투에 불을 붙였다.  그러니 이제 나도, 내 백성이 아닌 딴 백성을 내 백성으로 삼아서, 그들의 질투심에 불을 붙이고, 어리석은 민족을 내 백성으로 만들어 그들을 격분시키겠다." Deuteronomy 32:20b-21 testifies: "[F]or they are a perverse generation, children in whom there is no faithfulness.  They made me jealous with what is no god, provoked me with their idols.  So I will make them jealous with what is no people, provoke them with a foolish nation."  하나님을 믿지 않는 세대가 악한 세대요 타락한 세대입니다.  The generation that does not trust God is the evil generation, the perverse generation.    바리새인들이 예수님에게 하늘로서 오는 표적을 구한 것은 하나님의 현존을 보기 위해서가 아니라 예수님을 시험하기 위해서였습니다.  It is not to see the presence of God but to test Jesus that Pharisees asked Jesus a sign from heaven.  그들은 경건을 가장하여 하나님의 아들을 시험하려 하였습니다.  By pretending to be pious, they were trying to test Jesus.  이것은 어리석음이 아니라 사악함입니다.  This is not foolishness but wickedness.  사악한 경건은 세계 내에서 하나님을 볼 수 없습니다. Wicked piety cannot see God within the world.  그러나 진실된 믿음은 모든  일상생활에서 하나님의 나라를 발견합니다.  Honest faith, however, discovers the kingdom of God in all ordinary life. 7. 사랑은 결코 증명되지 않습니다.  단지 행해질 뿐입니다.  Love is never proved but just done. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------    예수님은 이 땅에서 많은 기적을 행하셨습니다.  Jesus worked many miracles on the earth.  하지만 그는 결코 기적을 행하는 자가 아니었습니다.  He was not a miracle worker.  그는 하나님 사랑의 증거자였습니다.  He was the very witness of the love of God.  왜냐하면 그는 사랑이 없이는 결코 기적을 행하지 않으셨기 때문입니다.  It is because he wouldn't, however, work any miracle without love.  예수님은 하나님을 우리의 아버지라고 부르셨고, 우리와 하나님과의 관계를 사랑의 관계로 설명하셨습니다.  Jesus called God as our father and explained our relationship to God as the relationship of love.  이러한 예수님의 가르침은, 하나님을 거룩한 분으로만 이해하던 그 당시의 유대인들에게는 이단이요 신성모독으로 간주되었습니다. This teaching is regarded as heresy and blasphemy by the Jews of that age who understood God as holy alone.  그래서 바리새인들은 예수님에게 네가 말하는 사랑의 하나님을 보여달라고 요구했습니다.  For this reason, Pharisees demanded Jesus, "Show your God of love as you assert."  그러나 사랑은 결코 증명되지 않습니다.  단지 행해질 뿐입니다.  But love is never proved but just done. 8. 믿음은 하나님의 사랑을 전폭적으로 신뢰하는 것이며, 그의 사랑에 참여하는 것입니다.  Faith is total trust in the love of God and participation in his love. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------    증명을 요구하는 불신의 세대에게 하나님의 존재에 대해 줄 수 있는 증거는 없습니다. For the unbelieving generation we have no proof to prove the existence of God.  의혹과 미움은 사랑을 기피하며, 우리를 믿음에서 멀어지게 합니다.  Doubt and hatred evade love and make us alienated from faith.  믿음은 하나님의 사랑을 전폭적으로 신뢰하는 것이며, 그의 사랑에 참여하는 것입니다.  Faith is total trust in the love of God and participation in his love.  요한일서 4:16은 이렇게 증거합니다: "하나님이 우리를 사랑하시는 사랑을 우리가 알고 믿었노니 하나님은 사랑이시라 사랑 안에 거하는 자는 하나님 안에 거하고 하나님도 그 안에 거하시느니라."  1John 4:16 testifies: "So we have known and believe the love that God has for us.  God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them." 9. 우리는 증명할 줄 모릅니다.  다만 드러낼 뿐입니다--사랑 안에서.  We do not know how to prove.  But we reveal--in love. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------    우리는 우리를 사랑하시는 하나님의 사랑을 알고 믿습니다.  We know and believe the love of God that loves us.  하나님은 사랑이십니다.  God is love.  사랑 안에 거하는 자는 하나님 안에 거하며 하나님도 그 안에 거하십니다.  Whoever abides in love abides in God and God abides in him/her.  여러분은 이 세상 그 어느 것과도 바꿀 수 없는 하나님의 사랑하는 자녀입니다.  You are the beloved children of God who cannot be exchanged or substituted by anything in the world.  우리는 하나님의 존재를 보여줄 수는 없습니다.  We cannot prove the existence of God.  그러나 우리에 대한 그 분의 사랑과 그 분에 대한 우리의 사랑이 그 분의 존재를 드러냅니다.  But his love for us and our love for him reveals his existence.  우리는 증명할 줄 모릅니다.  다만 드러낼 뿐입니다--사랑 안에서.  We do not know how to prove.  But we reveal--in love.
